Hanne and I on our wedding day.

-- Our Wedding --
( 8 June 2007 )
The big day!  The day I finally married the woman of my dreams.  It took me 42 years to find her, but the wait was worth it!!  And, in the process I gained some wonderful people that I'm proud to call "In-laws".  But, I'm getting ahead of myself.  First, came the pain with the process.  Ugh!!

Hanne and I thought that everything would be smooth since we started submitting documents in April.  We were wrong!  Every time we thought we were finished, something new was needed, and time was getting closer and closer to June 8th.  Even the Friday prior, June 1st, we thought we were complete, only to be told that we had to drive somewhere else to get another document.  Finally, 3 days before the wedding, we received confirmation that all necessary requirements had been met.

On Wednesday, June 6th, my mother and aunt arrived at Frankfurt Airport.  It was two years since I last saw them, and was very happy that they could make it for this event.  However, Hanne and I allowed them no rest, as we dragged them along to complete the final preparations.

The morning of the wedding, Hanne went to the salon with her friend Sandra and Aunti Ri, while my Mother, the next-door neighbor Ronni, and I went to pick up the bouquet, the spiessbraten, and the cake.

Once we arrived at the Standesamt, events occurred rapidly. We took some family photos outside, and then proceeded inside for the ceremony.  Since I'm not fluent in German, a translator was required.  Idar-Oberstein is the center for Europe's gem and stone industry, so we were presented with a quartz tea-light holder as a wedding gift.  After the wedding, we took a few more photos, celebrated with champaigne, and then went back home for the reception.

Before Hanne and I could return home, we first went to the photo studio.  We were ready to take the standard studio wedding photo to hang on our wall.  The photographer presented us with a choice, however, and we followed her to the gardens of the studio owner.  The beautiful photos at the top of this page were taken there.  We didn't share this with our family and friends, as we wanted this to be our little secret surprise when we gave them a photo.  We chose the center photo to give to everyone.

Back at the house, decorations were in place, the grill was started, and drinks were cold,  Nothing for us to do, but change clothes and enjoy the reception.  Thanks to all of our friends and family who were able to be here and take part in one of the happiest moments of our lives.  For those who weren't able to be here, we hope that our story and these photos show the love that Hanne and I have for each other, and help you to feel a part of this wonderful day.
